KL Rahul has been in great form in the limited overs matches for India in recent times. He played an important role in India's victory during this period. Former India batsman VVS Laxman has praised Rahul's batting in the England tour and said that he wants him to score similar runs in South Africa. He said that Rahul's return to Test cricket is commendable.
During the pre-series review in Star Sports, Laxman said, 'What a wonderful comeback he (KL Rahul) has made in this Indian Test team. He got a chance as Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill were injured but he grabbed the opportunity. He further added that Rahul will have to apply the same formula that he used in England as it helped him score a lot of runs there. Regarding KL Rahul's stroke-playing abilities, Laxman said, "He is an attacking player, he is a stroke player but he also knows that if you want to be successful in South Africa, you have to know."
